Occupational therapy is a health profession that provides services to individuals affected by developmental, physical, emotional or social disabilities and helps them achieve maximum independence. If you are a creative and caring individual who likes working with others, consider a career as an occupational therapy assistant. The Associate of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Keiser University prepares students for employment in this growing field.

An occupational therapy assistant (OTA) works under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist to help people of all ages enhance their performance of important everyday activities such as work, education and self-care despite the effects of illness, disability or injury. OTAs interact with clients to assess existing performance, set therapeutic goals, develop a plan and implement intervention. These healthcare professionals work in a variety of settings including schools, nursing homes, hospitals, outpatient centers and community settings.

Keiser University's Associate of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant program prepares students in occupational therapy principles, intervention and assessment tools at the entry level under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist. Students develop hands-on knowledge and skills to help increase the ability of the client to participate in everyday activities and function better in his or her world. Graduates of the two-year program are eligible to take the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) OTA certification exam.

Courses in the Associate of Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant program include:

Keiser University Success Stories

Keiser has given me the opportunity to embrace a career change. It has opened the door for a timely graduation and quick return to the workforce.”

Dale C., Occupational Therapy Assistant Graduate

My journey with Keiser University all began as a dream to return to school and have a career, rather than a 'job.' As I began the core classes for Occupational Therapy Assistant, I realized that I was learning from faculty with years of knowledge that were experts in their field. I walked away from this experience wiser and with confidence that I never knew I could achieve. I currently have two jobs as a certified occupational therapy assistant with both facilities that I interned at. I am still learning every day how to improve my skills and will probably continue to do so for the rest of my career. I would have never found this type of success without Keiser University and the amazing faculty in the OTA program. I am forever grateful to them for encouraging me every day to continue raising the bar. They saw in me something that I couldn’t see … success!”
